During the Scams Awareness fortnight, the Community Protection Team at Cambridgeshire County Council are aiming to make our residents more aware of how they can protect themselves and their families from scams. Scammers have been particularly active at this time, playing on people’s fears about the coronavirus to gain access to their personal details and financial information.

You can access a 20 minute elearning module which has been specifically updated for coronavirus scams. Citizens Advice have also produced a leaflet offering some guidance on how to spot a scam.

The current works on Histon Road are progressing well with Phase A improvements at the junction with Victoria Road and Huntingdon Road.  We are now progressing to the next phase which will require us to close Histon Road to inbound motor traffic for the duration of the construction. This closure will help to complete the works in a shorter period of time. The temporary road closure is planned to start from Monday 29th June 2020. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause. However, these works will deliver improvements for those who cycle, walk or use public transport on Histon Road and will help make travel in Cambridge more sustainable. Given the national priority to promote active travel during the current Covid-19 situation, it is more important than ever to progress with these works as they will directly help those who cannot work remotely and must travel. We hope the impact of the temporary road closure is reduced due to lower traffic levels and fewer children attending school. While the temporary closure is in place Histon Road will be one-way, outbound only for all motor traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to travel both ways on Histon Road throughout the road works period. The closure point will be just to the south of the King’s Hedges Road junction allowing inbound traffic to access King’s Hedges Road, and also allowing construction and farm traffic to enter the Darwin Green site. Access to properties along Histon Road and its side roads will remain open at all times.  For residents and businesses on the closed side of the road access will be permitted via site access points. During the closure, the diversion route will be via the A14, Milton Road and Victoria Road and will be signposted along the route and wider road network. Road Closure Guidance Signs, Barriers, Fences & Cones Please do not alter or remove any of the traffic management associated with the road closures. If items are blocking your access, please speak to a member of the onsite traffic management team. Traffic Management There will be site access/egress points positioned along the length of the closure which will be used by members of the public that need to access their homes or businesses on the same side of the road closure. Driveways may be temporarily blocked, for short periods, whilst completing the works directly in front of them. This will be communicated to each household on an individual basis prior to the works in each area commencing, so that any critical access arrangements can be maintained. Bin collections We are liaising with the waste and streets team.  Please continue to put your wheelie bin(s) out for collection on the normal day unless you are advised otherwise. Bus Services The inbound closure of Histon Road will affect several current bus services including the Citi 8 service from Cottenham, and the Busway B service.  The inbound Citi 8 service will be diverted via King’s Hedges Road, Arbury Road, Mere Way, Carlton Way, Gilbert Road and Milton Road.  This will include a stop quite close to Histon Road near the junction of Carlton Way and Gilbert Road.  The outbound Citi 8 will use Histon Road as normal.  The Busway B inbound service will divert via the Science Park and CRC stops then use Milton Road to access the city centre but will also continue to travel outbound on Histon Road serving Shire Hall and Orchard Park.  Shuttle Bus A new shuttle bus, route 8H, will be provided to compensate for the loss of inbound services on Histon Road.  This will circulate from the city centre via Victoria Road to Histon Road and then via King’s Hedges Road to Orchard Park where it will operate via an anticlockwise loop of Chieftain Way, Circle Drive and Chariot Way to Arbury Road and then as the diverted route 8 back to the city centre.  Full details of these services including a map and timetables will be available at www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/east/Histon-Road-closure If you have any concerns during construction, please do get in touch with Skanska’s project team on histonroad.contact@skanska.co.uk or telephone the 24-hour contact centre on 0330 105 1980. Details of upcoming road closures and works for Gripfibre Micro Asphalt Surface Treatment.

Road Closures:  C186 Rampton Rd, Willingham (inc High Street, Rampton) between Willingham & Rampton

I am writing to advise you of two Road Closures that will be happening very shortly, in order to facilitate essential carriageway maintenance.

Thursday 11th June 2020 for One day ¬– Carriageway patching works in preparation for Surface Treatment.

Tuesday 16th June 2020 for Four days – Gripfibre Micro Asphalt Surface Treatment.

Whilst the work is in progress, during operational hours, the road will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm (2.30pm during school term), and vehicular access will be restricted. A signed diversion route will be in place for through traffic.

In order for the contractor to complete the work with minimum disruption, it is essential that no vehicles are parked on the road. If you have particular access requirements, please speak to a member of the crew onsite who will be able to assist.

Access to properties within the closure area will be possible, but are subject to working conditions, and delays are to be expected. Crews will be working in accordance with Covid 19 guidelines.

These works are weather dependent, and changes are possible at short notice. Please look out for the advanced notices on site, as these will give the most up to date information; or contact our call centre or email as above.

Over £1.25m in grant funding is now available to help hundreds of small South Cambridgeshire businesses – who have not been eligible for Coronavirus support so far – to secure jobs and recover.

Eligible businesses such as charities, market traders, B&Bs and those in shared offices or flexible workspaces are invited to apply as soon as possible to the District Council for the new funding, and no later than midnight on 22 June.

The one-off payments under the Government’s discretionary grants scheme range from £2,500 for small firms, £10,000 for charities and up to £10,000 for other businesses connected to the retail, hospitality and leisure industry. Firms that have already benefited from previous Government grants do not qualify.

The Council has set up a special team to assess applications and distribute funding fairly and efficiently to eligible businesses that need support as the lockdown eases. This includes:

• Small businesses in shared offices or other flexible workspaces with a minimum rent of £250 per month
• Regular market traders who are based in the same physical location with fixed building costs and registered with the Council’s Environmental Health / Licensing Service
• B&Bs that pay Council Tax and are registered with the Council’s Environmental Health Service
• Charities that pay business rates to the Council and would meet the criteria to receive Small Business Rates Relief if they were an equivalent sized business.

These businesses will be notified of the Council’s decision as soon as possible.

The Council has introduced a fifth category for businesses not included in the above, which form part of the supply chain for the retail, hospitality and leisure industry and can demonstrate they have lost a minimum of 75% of their annual income as a result of COVID-19. With funding limited, the over-riding factor for grant determination will be the number of people employed. These businesses will be advised of any decisions after 22 June.

Among the qualifying criteria, businesses must have been trading on 11 March 2020, have a turnover of no more than £10.2m and employ less than 50 people.
