Beware BT Phishing E-mails One of our wonderful supporters has been in touch to let us know about a fake BT e-mail that they have received, trying to ‘phish’ for personal and account information. This may be doing the rounds so, as with all our scam warnings, please share this message onwards to your e-mail contacts, on social media and community webpages to help people to be aware and stay safe.  Of course if you’re not a customer of BT then you’re likely to suspect that this is a scam but in many cases of phishing e-mails, the fraudster has obtained the e-mail addresses of people who are customers of a company to target them with fake e-mails from the company in question.

Tell-tale signs that this e-mail is not genuine are:
The sender’s address is not a BT e-mail address (in this case the sender was 72227283@clouddata(dot)com ). Tip: you can check a senders address by hovering over or clicking on their name.
The customer not being addressed by name. Usually your bank or a company that you have an account with will know your name and use it to greet you.
The ‘T’ in BT being used in lower case in the body of the message.
Spelling errors e.g. buttton. 
The pressure or urgency to act i.e. within 2 days. Scammers like to apply pressure so someone might not take the time to think or seek advice.
The request for the recipient to click a link and give personal/account/banking information. This is the ultimate aim of a phishing e-mail – to obtain your information by deception, in order that it can be used to steal your money or trick you again in the future.

Phishing e-mails like this can be reported by forwarding to report@phishing.gov.uk .

Action Fraud Alert – Vaccine Passport Scams


Action Fraud has received over 700 reports from members of the public about fake emails purporting to be from the NHS. The emails claim to be able to provide people with a “digital passport” that “proves you have been vaccinated against COVID-19”. These emails are fake, and the links within them lead to genuine-looking websites that steal your personal and financial information.

How to protect yourself:

In the UK, coronavirus vaccines will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. You can be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a GP surgery or pharmacy local to you, to receive your vaccine. Remember, the vaccine is free of charge. At no point will you be asked to pay. The NHS will never ask you for your bank account or card details. The NHS will never ask you for your PIN or banking passwords. The NHS will never arrive unannounced at your home to administer the vaccine. The NHS will never ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips.   Your vaccination status can be obtained for free through the official NHS app, NHS website, or by calling the NHS on 119.

How to report scams:

If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, you can report it by forwarding the email to: report@phishing.gov.uk. Suspicious text messages can also be reported by forwarding them to the number: 7726 (it’s free of charge).

If you believe you are the victim of a fraud, please report this to Action Fraud as soon as possible by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.


 

Haden Way Development – Piling works – week commencing 23 August 2021

Please be aware that there will be piling works taking place at the development site on Hayden Way on w/c 23.08.21 lasting for a period of 5 days. The developer will be advising residents of the work via Facebook on the Willingham village page and will also complete a letter drop to residents. All works will be in accordance with planning guidelines, and they have also requested at their cost a noise and vibration monitor to ensure the works will not be too intrusive to residents.

Severe Weather Warning across Southern England

There is a severe weather warning in place for heavy rain across much of southern England (including South Cambridgeshire) on Saturday and Sunday.

South Cambridgeshire District Council can help some residents whose properties are at imminent risk of flooding. Depending on the amount of rain, it is however worth bearing in mind that it may be the case that drains simply cannot get water away from an area fast enough.

As mentioned on their website, they have a supply of sandbags / Floodsax that can be delivered to domestic properties that are about to flood. This is primarily aimed at their most vulnerable residents. Residents requesting these sandbags / Floodsax during normal office hours should call us on 03450 450 063 or email streets@scambs.gov.uk –  If it is outside of normal office hours and an emergency then please contact our out of hours number for Environmental Health Emergency on 01253 501 055. However, please bear in mind that they have a limited supply of sandbags / Floodsax and, depending on resources, it will likely take officers some time to deliver them. This is why it is so important to make preparations before a flood risk becomes imminent.

Residents whose property has flooded in the past or are concerned it may flood during the current period of weather warnings should seek to buy their own sandbags / Floodsax etc now. There are more useful tips for preparing for floods in the attached recent South Cambs Magazine articles.

If parishioners need help to stop their properties from flooding and don’t have access to sandbags etc they can also contact the Parish Council Chairman (Derek Law) on 07866 726910 as we do have a limited supply of sandbags.

Concessionary Bus Renewals

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is aware that over the next eighteen months the number of renewals of the concessionary bus passes is going to be potentially very high. It is the responsibility of the pass holder to check when their pass is up for renewal and then to contact the Combined Authority to get a new one.

In order to aid the pass holder they have set up an online form which allows people to easily renew online. This online form can be found at Free Bus Passes – CPCA Transport (cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk) . If people have any problems with the online form then they can also call the number on the back of their passes.

A14 C2H Road Closures week commencing 19th July 2021 – REVISED

Please see the revised version of this week’s closures attached. We have an additional closure of the A14 westbound entry slip at Godmanchester junction 23 this weekend.

Please note there will be 2-way temporary traffic lights at the southern roundabout at the Godmanchester junction to facilitate the resurfacing works on the western side of the roundabout.
