ECops – Further arrests following coursing and disorder
We have made three further arrests in connection with an investigation into violent disorder and criminality that occurred across Cambridgeshire on 25 January. Two men aged 22 and 51 were arrested in Essex this morning (Tuesday), while a 46-year-old man was arrested in Peterborough this afternoon. A force-led investigation was launched following multiple complaints of hare coursing, criminal damage and dangerous driving in various parts of the county. Incidents took place in Fordham, Ely, Prickwillow, Littleport, Welney, Chatteris, Manea, Wimblington and Doddington and police continue to appeal for the public’s help in identifying those involved. Local policing commander Superintendent Ben Martin said: “Our investigation team have been working tirelessly reviewing the many pieces of information that have been coming into us which have led to these arrests, which demonstrates the continuing commitment by the constabulary to bring the offenders to justice.” The men were both released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station at a later date, with strict conditions: · Not to be in possession of, be in control of, or be in the company of any dog on private land without the owner’s written permission. · When in possession of, in control of, or in the company of any dog, said dog must be on a lead. · Not to be in a vehicle with any dog, whilst outside of a five-mile radius of your home address, unless for a pre-arranged veterinary appointment. · Not to be in possession of a catapult or shot, such as ball bearing, and/or an air weapon or any part of an air weapon. · You must not drive or be conveyed in a mechanically propelled vehicle onto private fields or agriculture field belonging to another person without written permission presentable to an officer. · You must not use any public spaces, footpaths, bridleways or other such like areas belonging to the Local Authority or another unspecified person with the intention to hare course. · You must not shout at, swear at, or intimidate any persons in any of the 12 counties – Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire or Nottinghamshire. ECops – Help prevent ATM theft
Following recent incidents of ATM thefts, here are some things to look out for to help prevent this happening to a business near you: · Unauthorised people paying close attention to ATMs, including taking photos or attaching ‘out of order’ signs to give an impression the machine is not working properly · Tractors or heavy machinery vehicles being driven in the middle of the night · People scoping houses or tampering with number plates, thieves will often do this before stealing a vehicle to use in a ram raid · High-performance or plant vehicles that are not usually in the area and appear to have been left parked for a few days Attaching a tracker inside your vehicle and installing CCTV or a video doorbell could help to prevent your vehicle being stolen to be used in a ram raid. Most importantly if you see something that doesn’t look right, then it probably isn’t. Always call 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, you can report a crime on our website here. |

ECops – The story of the reunited brothers
Reuniting two brothers was just one of the jobs our response officers got to do last week. A worried man had spent all morning and early afternoon looking for his brother, only to call us when he couldn’t think what else to do last Thursday. He called police just before 1.30pm concerned for his sibling, who is in his 70s and has dementia. The man’s health had been declining in recent weeks and when his brother came to visit him at his home in Hartford, near Huntingdon, the man was nowhere to be found and had left his phone behind. The elderly man had recently been going for walks but then getting lost. Officers searched the area, known locations and former addresses he was known to visit due to his symptoms – but could find no trace of the man. However when officers were speaking to the man’s brother, he received a very important phone call. A landlady of one of the man’s favourite pubs, which had already been checked by his brother and police earlier that day, said the missing man had just walked into the venue. Thank you to that landlady, who already knew the man’s health had been declining and knew exactly who to call. Her kindness and compassion to make sure the man was safe was lovely to see. Officers attended the pub where they found the missing man, while other officers gave his brother a lift to meet him and reunite the pair. The man’s brother already had steps in place to help find him if he went missing, but we also let him know about the Herbert Protocol. Have you heard of it? It’s a scheme we support that can help find people with dementia if they go missing. It encourages family and friends to keep a document that will help officers in the event a loved one goes missing by collating key pieces of information, such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo. ECops – Be vigilant – look out for vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours
We’ve been alerted to reports of fraudsters targeting elderly and vulnerable people in neighbouring counties. These con artists usually engage their victims over the phone, often purporting to be from the police or the bank and in need of the victim’s help with an investigation into fraudulent activity on their account. They may ask the victim to disclose their card details and pin number or withdraw money from their account ready for them to collect. They may even pose as an investor and pressure someone into parting with money for a “too good to miss” investment opportunity. Keep an eye on vulnerable relatives and remind them… · Stop – if they receive an unexpected call that requires them to hand over money or bank details, end the call and process the information first · Protect – call the bank immediately if they think they’ve been scammed so they can freeze their account · Alert – tell them to report the incident to police and a trusted friend or relative For more information and advice on courier fraud, visit our website. |

ECops – Elderly man safeguarded

It was just before 7am on Sunday when an elderly man was spotted on CCTV going for a walk – but this was no ordinary walk. He was reported missing from his care home in Peterborough and checks revealed he had dementia, which had been declining in recent months. Officers searched the area, nearby shops and supermarkets, the A&E department at Peterborough City Hospital and former addresses he was known to visit due to his symptoms – but could find no trace of him. Thank you to the member of the public who found the man in his 70s wandering around the Newborough and Peakirk areas along back roads. The passerby thought something wasn’t quite right, so took him home to the care home. The man admitted that he knew he’d gone for a walk, but then got lost. ![]() We’d like to thank them for their kindness and compassion, and taking time out of their day to make sure the man was safe and well. Further safeguarding measures have been put in place and we have also highlighted the Herbert Protocol to the man’s family. Have you heard of it? It’s a scheme we support that can help find people with dementia if they go missing. It encourages family and friends to keep a document that will help officers in the event a loved one goes missing by collating key pieces of information, such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo.
