Extra COVID-19 support deployed to parts of the East of England

Extra COVID-19 support deployed to parts of the East of England

Additional support will be deployed to 3 local authorities in the East of England in response to high rates of COVID-19 cases in the region. From:UK Health Security AgencyPublished31 October 2021Last updated31 October 2021 — See all updates

Following the latest review of coronavirus (COVID-19) data, additional support will be deployed from 1 November to Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and Suffolk, in response to high rates of COVID-19 cases in the area.

The decision has been made in partnership with local authorities and is based on the latest data and local insights. Targeted additional support will be provided.

The package includes options for:

  • targeted support to maximise vaccine and testing uptake
  • extra testing in these targeted areas
  • further help for local public health campaigns
  • temporary extra measures in education settings

This additional support will be in place for 5 weeks from 1 November to allow for targeted local action. Pupils will return to school next week as planned.

Local residents are urged to remain cautious and follow the national guidance, including to get vaccinated, wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport, meet outdoors where possible, let fresh air into homes or other enclosed spaces.

Chief Executive of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Jenny Harries said:

Although we have returned to a more familiar way of life, it’s important we all continue to play our part in controlling the spread of the virus, especially as we move into winter.

Everybody, especially in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Suffolk, can take simple steps to protect themselves by getting vaccinated, wearing face coverings in crowded places, letting in fresh air when mixing indoors and washing their hands regularly.

Getting vaccinated is the best way we can protect ourselves from becoming unwell with COVID-19. I encourage everyone who is eligible to come forward for their jab as soon as possible – whether that’s a first, second or booster dose.

UKHSA data shows that the vaccination programme has substantially weakened the link between cases, hospitalisations and deaths. Vaccinated people are far less likely to get COVID-19 with symptoms and even more unlikely to get serious COVID-19, to be admitted to hospital, or to die from the virus

Dear Mandy

What is County Lines?
County lines is a form of criminal exploitation where urban gangs persuade, coerce or force children and young people to store drugs and money and/or transport them to suburban areas, market towns and coastal towns (Home Office, 2018). It can happen in any part of the UK and is against the law and a form of child abuse.

We are delighted to welcome expert guest speakers from The Children’s Society, County Lines leads and organised crime county lines coordinators to be part of our panel of presenters.

Scam Alert

Casp View as a webpage scam warning Emails impersonating UK supermarkets and high street stores Fake marketing surveys promising gift cards of up to £100 for filling them out have been impersonating the likes of ASDA, Morrisons and Tesco. Fraudsters have been posing as these well-known supermarkets in order to gain your trust and send you on to potentially dangerous websites. ASDA phishing email This email is designed to make you follow the link by promising a large reward in return for doing very little – a common phishing tactic. But this ‘survey’ is not being run by ASDA.  Morrisons phishing email Using the same tactics, the fake Morrisons version promises a £90 reward. Tesco phishing email The Tesco phishing email is just like the Morrisons one with different logos. Tesco has a dedicated email for customers to forward phishing emails to: phishing@tesco.com. It also has a guide on how to identify scam emails posing as the brand. Now, according to the organisation “Which”, which has been highlighting this issue recently (and alerting the companies concerned), emails are circulating promising Primark gift card ‘rewards’, these are fake and have absolutely nothing to do with the high street store.  Primark phishing email As is often the case, the phishing email is promising big rewards for doing very little – in this case  ‘Primark Rewards’ in the form of a gift card for £1,384 – saying that you need to ‘activate the delivery’ in order to receive them. But clicking through on scam emails like these is only likely to send you on to potentially dangerous websites that could compromise your personal information and/or bank details. The email even attempts to deceive you by including ‘your account information’, which may appear legitimate at first glance, but on closer inspection only contains information that’s part of your email address. “Which” has produced a couple of useful guides about spotting scams and how to try to get your money back: Guide: how to spot a scam Guide: how to get your money back after a scam Think you may have lost money to a scam email? Let your bank know what’s happened immediately, the sooner the better. You can forward phishing emails to report@phishing.gov.uk. As noted above, Tesco has its own dedicated email, so you could forward the phishing email to it as well. Follow us on Twitter| Facebook|Cambridgeshire.gov.uk/against-scams CCC PCC

Staying Safe this Halloween

Message Type Icon Staying Safe This Halloween
Dear subscriber,

With Halloween just a few days away we’re urging trick-or-treaters to respect their neighbours.

October 31 is traditionally a night of fun and frolics with children dressed up as ghosts, witches and assorted monsters knocking on doors saying ‘Trick or Treat’.

While many householders are happy to hand over sweets or other presents to ward off the evil spirits it’s important to remember that not everybody wants strangers knocking on their doors.

For vulnerable or older members of the community Halloween can be a frightening and intimidating experience.

We have created a poster people can download and display in their homes asking trick-or-treaters not to call as well as some tips for trick-or-treaters to ensure everyone has a pleasant evening.

Other tips for an enjoyable Halloween include: Ensure children are accompanied by a responsible adult Explain how vulnerable people can be frightened by an unexpected group calling at their door on a dark evening Only knock at houses where you know you will be welcome Respect any ‘no trick-or-treating’ notices displayed If you do have any concerns, please call 999 in an emergency or 101/online if you want to report a concern.

You can download a copy of the poster to display here.
