Cost of Living Support for South Cambs Residents
South Cambridgeshire residents are being encouraged to ensure they take advantage of all the cost-of-living support they are entitled to this winter. With the weather getting colder and communities spending more on heating, the District Council is beginning a new campaign to urge residents to make full use of assistance available. Research suggests that around 25% of some benefits go unclaimed. The Council is therefore encouraging residents to check they are claiming what they are legitimately entitled to. The campaign also reminds people that local foodbanks – all listed on the Council’s website – are there when needed, and you don’t need a voucher to use most of them. There is also an appeal for residents to get energy-saving advice and find out about grants for home improvements to cut spending on energy bills during the winter. Read more on the District Council’s website.
Update from Anglian Water
Following the recent wet weather, Anglian Water have provided the following update. The Parish Council and County Council are continuing to press for a satisfactory outcome to the issues experienced by residents.
“I sincerely apologise for the delay in getting back to you, our operational teams are prioritising helping customers recover from the storms and so it is taking longer than usual to get information from them.
Further investigations into the source of excess flows during storm events indicate that they seem to be coming from Longstanton. As a result, we are going to review the data in more detail and look to carry out a comprehensive survey of this neighbouring catchment to see if we can remove any surface water connections there. This would help to reduce the flood risk in Willingham and Longstanton.
In order to progress these next steps we are working with local operations teams who will help pull together an investment business case to be assessed on priority against other investment needs across our region.”

We’ll be at Orchard Park Sports Centre on Friday 17th November between 4pm and 7pm marking bikes for free. The process takes about 10 minutes and follows the below steps: 1. Add your bike details to the National Police-approved database 2. Mark and protect your bike with a security marking kit 3. Reduce the risk of theft by warning thieves that your bike is marked and increase the chances of you being reunited with it, if it happens to get stolen. You’ll need to bring your bike and frame number with you (this can normally be found on the bottom bracket of the bike. We also ask that you register with BikeRegister before you arrive. We look forward to seeing you there. PC Christopher Smits South Cambs Neighbourhood Policing Team |

E-Cops – Respectful reminder this Halloween
![]() If you’ve got children heading out for trick-or-treating, please remind them of the importance of being mindful of those who do not wish to participate in the holiday. In order to respect those who may not wish to participate for a manner of reasons, we ask that you do not knock on the doors of those who have ‘no trick or treaters’ signs or even those without any lights/decorations displayed. With it getting darker earlier, you can help make it safer for children by keeping your outdoor lights on. Furthermore, ensure that children are accompanied by a responsible adult. For those thinking of taking part in the ‘trick’ aspect of Halloween, it is important to keep in mind that any deliberate behaviour that results in damage or hurts someone is a crime. We hope you won’t need the them, but as with any other day of the year, the Police are at the end of the phone if you need them and will have our neighbourhood officers on patrol across the country as a visible presence. You can find more information and where to report any issues via our dedicated webpage. |
